I have a trick knee (torn ACL, probably, although I've never actually been to a doctor to confirm this), and it went out again yesterday for no good reason. I am in some serious pain. I will probably need surgery eventually, although that's going to have to wait until I have enough money. There is one minor upside, though; I get to lie around on the couch all day and have Ryan do everything.

So I got the job as a research assistant. It's been a week, and so far I kind of love it, which is shocking. Nobody has pissed me off yet, I have my own computer, and I have also discovered that I sort of love working in a cubicle. Isn't that fucking weird? People hate cubicles! What the fuck is wrong with me?

I had a drink with one of my co-workers today. It was nice enough, but also weird. I never thought I would be someone that would go have a drink with someone from the office. Does this mean I'm all grown up, or what?

I got into thebookyoucrew too! Which is fabulous, because I kind of didn't expect to in the first place, and also because I got rejected initially. So, yeah, it was a big nice surprise waiting for me when I got home.

Tomorrow's the big day. I've whitened my teeth, dyed my hair Professional Dark Brown, removed my eyebrow ring (and, you know, it's really about time...I have officially outgrown it, I think). I wish it had occurred to me to quit biting my nails. Let's just hope they don't look at my hands. What I want to convey is "I am a mature and responsible person who will bring nothing but awesomeness to this organization." What my hands say, however, is "I am a batshit wreck who is barely capable of crossing the street by herself."

Not the faux epoxy, with the one tube and the quick-dry promises. I mean the kind with two tubes of equally noxious chemicals, the kind that requires speed and timing and that dries dull yellow. I just totally fixed my broken glasses. And I mean for good.

So now I have two job interviews! One is at the Department of Psychiatry at Duke, in the clinical research unit, and the other is at PPD, as a research assistant in the pharmacovigilance department. I'm more excited about PPD, because they pay fourteen (FOURTEEN!) dollars an hour, and they also offer health insurance to domestic partners as well as spouses. It makes me happy to know that they are progressive and all. So, yeah, I'm feeling a little more optimistic about the job thing now. I have officially been sitting on my ass for a month and a half now, suckling at the teat of Ryan's gainful employment. I wash dishes and do laundry and all, but it doesn't really make me feel like less of a leech. I'm not really cut out for the housewife gig.

I finished the most interesting book today. It's called The Habit, and it's all about convent garb and how it's changed over time. I wouldn't have expected to be into such a topic, but it was fascinating.

Ryan is out getting us some baklava. Word.
